LAKE MICHIGAN HOME REMODEL

LAKE MICHIGAN HOME REMODEL

Grand Haven Township, Michigan

The clients of this previously remodeled mid-century modern home asked for significant upgrades. The northern interior (right) half of the house on both levels was gutted. Within, a new floor plan established a generous master suite overlooking the lake, plus a guest suite. At the lower level, the open garage space was subdivided into a bright, fresh laundry room, an artist’s studio, and the garage completely re-slabbed and the space insulated, finished in washable surfaces, illuminated with LED fixtures, and heated.

The master suite features a beautiful walk-in dressing room of maple cabinetry and a spacious bathroom with zero-curb open shower. The porcelain floor/wall tile joint work established a precise esthetic. The shower ceiling, along with recesses detailed for the window and soap ledge is tiled in a complimentary aqua sea-glass. The room feels substantially larger using a floating sink-base and counter to ceiling mirror, and color corrected LED lighting. A radiant floor provides additional comfort.

The guest suite features a bathroom with a similar porcelain tile environment and bow-front tub and a pedestal sink. This was a windowless space I made feel as if sky-lit by employing a curved translucent polycarbonate ceiling back-lit by LED.

PROJECT FEATURES
  • As this is an April-October house, the living/dining carpeting was replaced with the cooler feel of cork flooring. Bedrooms  are elegant wool carpeting.
  • A lower level office transforms at night to a guest bedroom by using a cabinetry solution with a “murphy-bed”.
  • The original windows are replaced with Pella Architectural Series, with low-e, tinted, argon gas filled insulated glazing.
  • Paint selections with a semi-lustre sheen creates a high-quality ambience complimenting the furnishings and art.
  • A new forced air/filtered HVAC system was installed.
  • I obtained MDEQ Critical Dune construction approval.

Collaboration with interior designer Cherie Siel.
